Revised Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice – What Employers Need to Know

Earlier this fall, the College finalized revisions to its Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, which is now available to view on the College’s website

The Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice was revised following a robust consultation process to ensure that updates reflect societal changes and the current practice landscape, with a further focus on public benefit. The changes affect ALL social workers and social service workers, regardless of their employer or area of practice.

Revisions to the Standards of Practice

The updates include a greater focus on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, as well as simplified language and clarification on some topics. The new website version of the revised Standards of Practice now includes links to relevant resources to further support registrants in their practice. Employers and registrants can also access a Summary of Updates to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice on the College’s website.

About the Standards of Practice

The Standards of Practice set out minimum standards of professional and ethical conduct required of College registrants in accordance with the College’s mandate to protect the public from unprofessional, incompetent and unfit practitioners. The Standards of Practice provide a means to guide College registrants, assess their behaviour, and adjudicate issues of professional practice.
