Requests for Review by the Registration Appeals Committee

If an applicant’s registration is not approved, they will be informed why they have not met the criteria for registration.  Unsuccessful applicants have sixty days to request a review of the decision.

How to Request a Review

  • Log into the Online Portal and navigate to the “Request” tab.
  • Select “Request a Review by the Registration Appeals Committee”

Acknowledgement of Receipt of Request for Review

The College will acknowledge receipt of all requests for review within 1-2 business days. Applicants will be notified when their file is scheduled for review and will receive an electronic copy of the review file prior to the committee’s meeting. The review file will include the application materials considered in the original registration decision and any new information submitted with the request for review.

The Committee’s Review

The Registration Appeals Committee conducts the reviews. Before the Committee begins to review your file, you will receive a copy of all the documents that the Committee intends to consider in making its decision. You have 30 days to review these documents and submit any written comments.

Typically, the Committee reviews requests from applicants in the order in which they are received. This means that it may take several months for the Committee to review a request. The time it takes for the Committee to reach a decision depends on the specific details of each application, as well as any extra information provided to the Committee for consideration.

The Committee does not meet with applicants. They use the submitted documents to make their decision.

During the review, the Committee may ask the applicant, or a third party (such as an educational institution or employer) for additional information. If the Committee receives new information and documents from a third party at your request, you will be provided with copies of those materials. You will be then given an additional 30 days to review the new information and make written submissions before the Committee considers it in its decision.

Possible Outcomes

Once the Committee has reviewed the request, possible outcomes include:

  • Issuing the applicant a certificate of registration.
  • Issue the applicant a certificate of registration that is subject to specific terms, conditions or limitations.
  • Direct the Registrar to vary specified terms, conditions or limitations in the Registrar’s proposal.
  • Confirm the original decision to not issue a certificate of registration.

The applicant receives a copy of the decision and reasons. If an applicant is unhappy with the Committee’s decision, they can appeal it through the provincial Divisional Court.
