Call for Nominations: Social Work Vacancy on Council

The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) has recently accepted a resignation from the elected social worker for Electoral District No. 2 and there is now a social work vacancy on Council. We encourage you to submit an expression of interest to fill this vacancy and serve on Council.

To fill the vacancy, the College is looking for a social work registrant from District No. 2 to serve on Council for the remainder of the term, until the next election in District No. 2, in May 2026.

The current College Council members will elect a social worker from District No. 2 to fill this vacancy. College registrants will not vote, as this is not the general District No. 2 election.

What do Council members do?

  • Develop policies to regulate the practice of social work and social service work that reflect the College’s primary duty to serve and protect the public interest.
  • Govern and manage the affairs of the College.
  • Attend approximately four Council meetings annually and sit on at least one statutory committee.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The College strives to create an inclusive environment on Council to reflect the diversity and lived experiences of its registrants and the individuals, families and communities that they serve. As part of these efforts, the College encourages nominations from eligible registrants who are proficient/fluent in French and from other equity-deserving groups – including those who are Indigenous, members of visible minorities, persons living with disabilities, women and those who identify as women and/or those who are a part of the 2SLGTBQIA+ community.

How to apply

If you are interested in filling this vacancy, fill out and submit the Call for Nominations Package to the College by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023.

In addition to filling out a Call for Nominations Package, you must also complete a video series training called The Three R’s of Serving on Council: Roles, Responsibilities and Requirements. All registrants who want to apply for election to Council are required by College bylaw to complete this training. After watching the video series, you must complete a quiz. Once you have successfully completed the quiz, you will receive a certificate of completion that you must submit to the College as part of your Call for Nominations Package.

Please note that submitting a completed Call for Nominations Package does not guarantee your election to the position.

Deadline

Completed and signed Call for Nominations Packages must be received by the College no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023. Send your completed materials to elections@ocswssw.org.
