Dear College registrants:
The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) is pleased to share the following updates to support your practice.
Important Updates to Registrants’ Duty to Report Responsibilities
On July 1, 2024, amendments to the Child, Youth and Family Services Act came into effect. Registrants now have a duty to report when a child is in a children’s residence or another place where residential care is provided, and they have reasonable grounds to suspect that there is an immediate threat to the health, safety or welfare of the child.
More information can be found in the updated Duty to Report article.
For questions or inquiries about duty to report, contact the Professional Practice Department at practice@ocswssw.org.
REMINDER: Register for the 2024 Educational Forum
The College invites registrants to attend its virtual Educational Forum on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. EST.
What to Expect
In addition to a College update from Denitha Breau, Registrar and CEO, the Educational Forum will include a keynote panel discussion entitled Touchpoints of Trust: Setting Boundaries and Navigating Consent. The College’s Director of Professional Practice, Christina Van Sickle, MSW, RSW, will facilitate the expert panel which will explore how registrants can set appropriate boundaries with clients and the various aspects that need to be considered when navigating conversations about consent. The panel session will also highlight key strategies for social workers and social service workers to support them when discussing professional touch, behaviour and conversation with clients.
