The mandate of the Standards of Practice Committee is to:
- Consider and review the Standards of Practice of the College and guidelines which relate to the Standards of Practice of the College.
- Recommend to Council a process for consulting College registrants in connection with the Standards of Practice of the College and guidelines which relate to the Standards of Practice of the College.
- Implement, or cause to be implemented, in accordance with Council’s direction, a consultation process in connection with the Standards of Practice of the College and guidelines which relate to the Standards of Practice of the College.
- Recommend, for the approval of Council, changes to the Standards of Practice of the College and adoption of guidelines which relate to the Standards of Practice of the College.
- Recommend, for the approval of the Registrar or Council, printed and other materials which they consider appropriate in order to communicate standards of practice and guidelines to members of the College.
- Perform such other duties as may from time to time be determined by Council.
In 2024, the Standards of Practice Committee:
- Oversaw revisions and recommended that Council approve the draft revisions to the Practice Guidelines for Medication Practices: Administration of Naloxone.
- Requested that Council delegate oversight of a review of the Practice Guidelines on Custody and Access Assessments to the Standards of Practice Committee.
- Chose a sub-committee to review RFP’s and select a consultant to revise the newly named Practice Guidelines for Parenting Plans (Practice Guidelines)
- Provided oversight for a community consultation process to review the draft revised Practice Guidelines, reviewed consultation feedback, and provided comments regarding further revisions to the draft revised Practice Guidelines
- Recommended that Council approve the draft revised Practice Guidelines
- Requested that Council delegate oversight of a review of the Practice Guidelines on Consent and Confidentiality with Children and Youth to the Standards of Practice Committee
