Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Chair: Woyengi (Gigi) Goary, RSW

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee was created in 2022, following the dissolution of the DEI Task Group. The mandate of the EDI Committee is to consider and make recommendations to Council on:

  • The potential for, and/or existence of, systemic and structural racism, discrimination and/or bias within the College’s statutory, regulatory and governance policies and processes.
  • Strategies (including revisions to bylaws, standards, guidelines and policies) to address any identified issues.
  • An approach to meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action within the regulatory sector.
  • The enhancement of educational resources to support College registrants in practising ethically and professionally, with a focus on considerations related to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Effective September 2024, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee was renamed the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

In 2024, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee:

  • Provided oversight of the College’s revised land acknowledgement.
  • Participated in engagement and revisions to the College’s Commitment to First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples and its Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, both of which form part of the College’s 2024-2029 Strategic Plan.
  • Engaged in discussions and provided input on terminology used by the College, including the term “stakeholder”.
  • Oversaw the development of the College’s internal tobacco offering guidelines.
