Discipline and Fitness to Practise Committees

The College is seeking a non-Council Committee member (resident of Ontario who is a registrant of the College in good standing but not a member of Council) to serve on the Discipline and Fitness to Practise Committees, for a two-year term beginning September 2026.

As part of its duty to serve and protect the public interest, the College is required to have a Discipline Committee. The duties of the Committee are to:

Hear and determine allegations of professional misconduct or incompetence on the part of a College registrant, directed or referred to it by the Complaints Committee, the Council, or the Executive Committee.
Perform any other duties assigned to it by Council.

As part of its duty to serve and protect the public interest, the College is required to have a Fitness to Practise Committee. The duties of the Committee are to:

Hear and determine allegations of incapacity on the part of a registrant of the College, as directed or referred to it by the Complaints Committee, the Council or the Executive Committee.
Perform any other duties assigned to it by the Council.

The time commitment and preparation time for any given hearing may vary depending on such factors as the volume of cases, the level of complexity or the amount of evidence that is called by the parties. The average number of hearings during a Committee term, which can fluctuate, is ten (10) to twenty-one (21) hearings, four (4) to six (6) pre-hearings on average, and one (1) to two (2) case conferences. This can depend on whether there are contested hearings which involve several days of hearings. Hearings, pre-hearings and case conferences are conducted virtually.
