Strong collaboration between employers and the College are essential to supporting safe, ethical and accountable practice across Ontario. Employers play a vital role in creating environments where social workers and social service workers can meet their professional obligations while delivering high-quality care to the individuals, families and communities they serve.
This spring, the College hosted its 15th Employer Roundtable, bringing together leaders from Children’s Aid Societies across the province. These conversations are an important opportunity to hear directly from employers about the realities of practice, emerging trends and the opportunities and challenges facing the sector.
The discussion highlighted the unique complexities of child welfare practice and explored topics including complaint trends, registration, regulatory expectations as well as ways the College can better support employers and registrants working in this practice setting. Participants also shared valuable perspectives on barriers to registration, misconceptions about the complaints process and the need for practice-specific education and resources.
These insights will help inform the College’s future communications, educational initiatives and employer engagement activities. The College is committed to continuing this conversation and to developing resources that respond to the needs identified by employers while reinforcing the College’s mandate of public protection.
Meaningful collaboration is one of the most effective ways we can strengthen the professions and better support registrants in their practice. By working together, the College and employers can improve understanding of the regulatory framework, promote professional accountability and help ensure that Ontarians continue to receive competent, ethical and high-quality care.
