Social Work Programs in Ontario

The following is a list of approved social work programs offered in Ontario. Generally, graduates who have obtained a degree in social work from these programs will meet the education requirement for registration as a social worker with the College.  For more information on becoming a member of the College after graduation, a Student FAQ brochure is available to download.

Social Service Work Programs in Ontario

The following is a list of approved social service work programs offered in Ontario. Generally, graduates who have obtained a diploma in social service work from these programs will meet the education requirement for registration as a social service worker with the College.  To date, there have been non-social service work programs approved by Council as being equivalent to a social service work program offered in Ontario at a College of Applied Arts and Technology.  Links to these programs are also below.

In addition to the above, in the social work category, generally graduates who have obtained:

•  a degree in social work from a social work program offered in Canada and accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work; or

•  a degree from a social work program offered at a college or university in the United States and accredited by the Council on Social Work Education will meet the education requirement for registration as a social worker with the College.

•  A list of the social work programs accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work can be found at www.cassw-acess.ca

•  A list of the social work programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education can be found at www.cswe.org.  Graduates of a social work program offered in a country other than Canada or the United States must have their social work degree evaluated by the Canadian Association of Social Workers. The website of the Canadian Association of Social Workers is www.casw-acts.ca.


In addition to the above, in the social service work category, generally graduates who have obtained a diploma from:

•  a program offered in Ontario at a College of Applied Arts and Technology that has been approved by Council as being equivalent to a social service work program offered in Ontario at a College of Applied of Arts and Technology; or

•  a program offered outside Ontario that has been approved by Council as being equivalent to a social service work program offered in Ontario at a College of Applied Arts and Technology will meet the education requirement for registration as a social service worker with the College. The Council of the College has approved policies that set out the criteria that Council will apply in deciding whether a program is equivalent to a social service work program offered in Ontario at a College of Applied Arts and Technology.
