Performing the Role and Competency Requirements

An applicant must have engaged in the practice of social work or social service work, within the five years immediately before the date of the application or otherwise satisfy the Registrar that he or she is competent to perform the role of a social worker or social service worker.

This requirement does not apply to an applicant who has obtained the academic qualifications, or the academic qualifications and experience, required for registration with the College, within the five years immediately before the date of application.

If an applicant has not engaged in the practice of social work or social service work within the five years immediately before the date of application, or has not obtained the academic qualifications, or the academic qualifications and experience, within the five years immediately before the date of application, the applicant completes a supplemental form to provide additional information for consideration by the Registrar. If the Registrar is satisfied that the other requirements for registration have been met, the Registrar may propose to issue a certificate of registration with terms, conditions and limitations (TCL). The TCL may impose, among other things, a period of supervised practice. In these circumstances, the Registrar may issue a certificate of registration with TCL, provided that the applicant has consented to the TCL.
