On November 1, 2004, the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) came into force. The purpose of PHIPA is to provide consistent and comprehensive rules governing the collection, use, retention, disclosure and disposal of personal health information in the custody and control of health information custodians. more
The College created the following practice guidelines for members which came into effect September 1, 2009: Custody and Access Assessments, Medication Practices and Consent and Confidentiality with Children and Youth. more

Bill 171, the Health System Improvements Act, 2007 amends a number of Acts, including the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and also includes new Acts, such as the Psychotherapy Act which establishes the new College of Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario. more
Effective October 1, 2010, the amendment to the SWSSWA will permit a member of the College who holds an earned doctorate in social work, to use the title “doctor”, a variation, abbreviation or an equivalent in another language in the course of providing or offering to provide, in Ontario, health care to individuals, if he or she complies with certain conditions. more
Practice Notes is a regular feature in the College's newsletter Perspective. It is designed as an educational tool to help Ontario social workers, social service workers, employers and members of the public gain a better understanding of recurring issues dealt with by the Complaints Committee that may affect everyday practice. more
