Important Updates for Members: Completing your CCP and the Social Workers and Social Service Workers Professional Development Fund

With the arrival of fall, renewing your College membership will soon be top of mind. This eBulletin contains important information about the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) and the Social Workers and Social Service Workers Professional Development Fund (SWSSWPDF).

Continuing Competence Program (CCP)

Membership renewal for 2017 is coming soon! When you renew your College membership, you’ll be required to make a declaration indicating that you have participated in the 2016 CCP. If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to complete your CCP documents to ensure that you’re meeting this important professional obligation. Participation in the CCP demonstrates to the public that you are Professional, Ethical, Qualified and Accountable.

Remember:

  • CCP participation is a condition of registration. All members are required to participate in the CCP, regardless of employment status or when they joined the College.
  • The CCP is self-directed: a wide variety of learning activities can count toward fulfilling your learning goals.

Please be advised that the Registration Regulation made under the Social Work and Social Service Work Act, 1998 gives the College the authority to suspend the certificate of registration of a member for non-compliance with the CCP.

Social Workers and Social Service Workers Professional Development Fund (SWSSWPDF)

In the spring of 2015, the Minister of Community and Social Services, Dr. Helena Jaczek, announced the creation of a $1 million Professional Development Fund Pilot (SWSSWPDF) to fund training for registered social workers and registered social service workers in Ontario over a two-year period.

The fund is open to social workers and social service workers registered with the College who are living or working in Ontario. It is administered through the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). We are pleased to announce that the Ministry has approved two recent changes with respect to the fund:

  • Funding has been increased from $300 to $500 for professional development activities completed between September 1st, 2016 and August 31st, 2017.
  • Applications must be submitted within 90 days of completion of the professional development activity.

Remember:
The SWSSWPDF is one way to access learning activities as part of your CCP.
